Job Description

The Emmanuel Gospel Center (EGC) empowers the Church toward Shalom in Greater Boston. We engage in applied research, ministry development, systems practice, and storytelling to strengthen ministries, support leaders, and address community needs.

We are seeking a Bookkeeper who brings accuracy, consistency, and care to day-to-day financial operations. This role is foundational to EGC’s financial health and stewardship and is best suited for someone who enjoys clear processes, clean records, and the quiet satisfaction of getting the details right.

The Bookkeeper is supported by senior finance leadership, established systems, and external accounting partners. This role is ideal for someone who is comfortable working independently, communicates clearly, and understands that faithful stewardship is both a technical and a relational responsibility.

This role values steady, sustainable work rhythms, clear priorities, and proactive communication.

  • Receive, log, and deposit incoming checks, including making post office and bank runs when required.
  • Process bi-weekly payroll accurately and on schedule, ensure payroll entries are correctly recorded in QuickBooks Online, and track payroll deductions, benefits, and reimbursements.
  • Run standard bookkeeping and financial reports, including balance sheet, profit & loss, and transaction detail reports for internal review by finance leadership.
  • Support month-end and year-end close, including audit and 990 preparation, by maintaining clean, complete, and well-documented financial records.
  • Process and track financial transactions for EGC programs and affiliated projects, including invoices and payments related to affiliate staff, partners, and sponsored projects.
  • Maintain organized financial documentation and support strong internal controls across all bookkeeping activities.

SKILLS, QUALITIES & EXPERIENCE

  • Demonstrated proficiency in QuickBooks Online (required).
  • Experience using Bill.com for accounts payable and expense management (strongly preferred).
  • Prior experience in a bookkeeping role with responsibility for AP, AR, reconciliations, credit cards, and payroll.
  • Comfort working with multiple accounts, funding sources, or programs.
  • Exceptional attention to detail and commitment to accuracy.
  • Strong understanding of bookkeeping fundamentals and transactional workflows.
  • Ability to follow established processes while flagging discrepancies or concerns.
  • Organized, methodical, and reliable in meeting recurring deadlines.
  • Clear and timely communicator.
  • High level of discretion when handling sensitive financial information.
  • Able to work collaboratively with staff across departments.
  • Dependable, responsive, and steady under routine financial demands.

CRITICAL QUALITIES

  • Mature Christian faith as defined by being an active member of a local church, agreeing with the Apostles Creed, and displaying the life of a Christian leader as described in 1 Timothy 3:1-10.
  • Passion for EGC’s principles and deep commitment to EGC's mission of empowering the Church and addressing community needs.
  • Displays cultural, gender, religious, racial, nationality, ability, and age sensitivity and adaptability.
